Just wanted to say I'm about to have an experience with beginner's mind. I'm attending my first Yongmaeng Jongjin (3-day retreat) starting tomorrow. I really don't know what to expect. I'm terrified! I just don't know if I can handle that much meditation. Anyway, as a dharma friend said today "It's like jumping into cold water...don't think too much about it or you can't do it." So that's what I'm going to do. I'm just going to go...and bring my beginner's mind.

Be good, everyone! :)

you put that very beautifully, chalip. i feel that your last paragraph, nicely summarized in your last sentence, is very important to keep in mind.

have a wonderful retreat, sudo. don't worry; i think you can handle it :)

Thank you for this reminder about beginner mind. I haven't sat for two days and decided to check the site before I went to my cushion. I was full of judgement about what not sitting meant and how even after just two days it feels harder...judgement, judgement, judgement. This helped me move from that place of keeping tally and just being here. Particularly those last few words-"this moment is the one that matters" yes it is.

I want to hear all about it when you get back! Like andree, I think you can handle it.

You're welcome. And, I've been there... I can remember being very harsh with myself when I first attempted Intensive Practice.

At first I wondered if it was a good idea... keeping track of how often we sit over the course of these 108 days. On the one hand, I think it is good to be able to look back and see what we did, but not so good if putting a spotlight on the information just causes us to get carried away... either with gloating and self-satisfaction or judgment and personal flogging.

One thing I tell myself often is "don't make it mean anything." If you find that you've missed a day or two, don't make it mean anything. Just keep going ;)

I'm back. I'm very tired and will now sleep. Tomorrow, back to work. I will share my experience soon.

Thank you everyone for your encouragement. I did just fine. It was absolutely awesome. And very very good for my practice.

More later...
